In a landmark decision, the British Government has approved Cuadrilla’s appeal for a fracking project in the borough of Fylde, Lancashire. The decision overrules that of the local council’s back in January to reject the company’s application on the grounds of noise and traffic impact. XTO Energy has invested $250 million to develop a pilot of 5 horizontal wells in Argentina, El Inversor reports. In early June the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released their report entitled “Assessment of the Potential Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing for Oil and Gas on Drinking Water Resources.” The report did not find evidence of widespread contamination of water supplies as a result of fracking. However it detailed instances of contamination and the many, many opportunities for disaster. Read the full report here:
